My two distinct reactions flow from the different ‘hats’ I wear.
First, I’m very alarmed at what is unfolding down in Houston. As I consider the ‘citizen’ hat I wear, I am drawn to think of my First Amendment rights that are being trampled upon. I could see this whole situation leading down the road of having our religious liberty taken away from us - and I mean from all of us.
Second, as I put on my ‘pastor’ hat to this situation, I have the impulse to gladly send in my sermons to the secular authorities. Why? Because as I have sought to preach about the terrible nature of sin, I have also preached the good news of Jesus Christ. And that is exactly what they, and everyone else in the world, need to hear. Granted, they most likely would ignore that part and cherry pick the parts that they can use against preachers. But, I see in the New Testament that the Apostle Paul, for example, was brought before rulers and authorities so that he could preach Christ.
